Item Description

Larry, Cassandra (Etching, 19"W x 15"H), Robert Ross

Robert Ross studied at Reed College, Yale Summer School of Music and Art, The Art Students' League of New York, and graduated from The Cooper Union School of Art, New York, in 1965. He has lived on the north coast of California for 45 years, working in oil, collage, watercolor, drawing, graphics, and freehand papercut. He's taught at College of the Redwoods, the Mendocino Art Center, Oregon School of Arts and Crafts, and California State Summer School for the Arts. Ross has had scores of solo shows and has participated in numerous group exhibits.

"I think the main bias in my work is my dependence on drawing. No matter what medium I'm working in, and regardless of matters of so-called realism or abstraction, the practice of drawing informs all of it. There's such a pronounced sensuality in drawing -- not necessarily in a particular subject, but in the responsive, complicated pleasure of the eyeballs, transmitting through mind and muscles to the sensitive, complicated, pleasurable life of the mark. Paintings ditto, of course. But increase the potential: the vivacity of the brush, the voluptuousness of the paint, and the awesome subtlety and precision of color.>/p>
