Item Description

A wide smile stretched across Barack Obama’s face as he watched the 2009 inaugural parade honoring him and marking a historic day for America – the swearing in of its first African American president. A crowd of more than 1 million – the largest inaugural attendance ever, by some estimates – celebrated with the country’s 44th president.

“It is hard to know what goes on in President Obama’s head,” said David Hume Kennerly, who captured the image. “But he’s got to be thinking, ‘This parade is for me!’ I mean, it is pretty hard to get over that.”

The photo is one of many taken that day by Kennerly, who with photojournalist Robert McNeely co-authored Barack Obama: The Official Inaugural Book. The pair led a team of award-winning photographers to document the event. This image is similar to the one he took that was the cover of the book but is unpublished.

Item Special Note

This framed photo is signed and numbered by Kennerly. It is a 16" by 20" archival pigment print on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta paper.
