Title: How 'bout them apples
Artist: Leslie Lockhart
Huntsville, AL
size: 34B
Leslie Gravley Lockhart, from Huntsville, AL is a featured BRArtist this year. Leslie grew up in South Carolina and developed a passion for creativity. Her mother was a constant source of encouragement--always giving her artwork to her friends and family.
Instead of pursuing a degree in fine art, Leslie chose to study interior design in Atlanta. Following graduation, she worked for large design and architectural firms in Atlanta and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Once she had children, Leslie took some time off to be home with her boys. During those years at home, art was always a hobby. She experimented with a variety of mediums but always returned to painting. Gradually she began creating art on a professional level. After relocating to Huntsville, Alabama, Leslie eventually had her own studio space in historic downtown Huntsville. Leslie's work is currently shown in Golden Griffin and Brooks and Collier (Huntsville) as well as Kathleen’s Gallery in Decatur and Halsey House in Florence. Bird in the Hand gallery in Salado, Texas also displays her work. Art festivals include, Panoply of the Arts, the Monte Sano Art show, both in Huntsville, and The Brentwood Fine Art Show and Sale in Nashville.
Other noteworthy accomplishments include being selected as the poster artist for the 2008 Early Works Museum Whistle Stop Festival, the 2009 Liz Hurley Ribbon Run (a high profile breast cancer awareness event) and for the 2009 Panoply Arts Festival. She also joined a small group of artists commissioned to paint a violin for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra’s annual Crescen Dough Auction.
Corporate collections include Sparta, Clearview Cancer Institute, Center of Imaging Excellence Women’s Center, Progress Band and Madison Surgery Center as well as the Mayor’s Office in Huntsville.
