Jeanne Bessette of Raleigh, NC is a featured BRArtist this year Jeanne is an American contemporary abstract artist. Her work has been influenced by Nathan Oliveira and Richard Diebenkorn. She works primarily in acrylics and mixed media.
In 2001 Jeanne moved to Florida, and gave up her camera to return to her painting roots. At that time she sought out master teachers who excelled in their field to relearn the tools of her true passion of painting. She studied with Bob Burridge, and Joanna Coke, among others, but considers herself primarily self-taught. In 2009 Jeanne moved to Raleigh, NC to continue her development as a painter.
In July 2011 Jeanne was a featured artist in Stillpoint Arts Quarterly Magazine. In November 2011 she was recognized by Art Business News as one of the "Top 50 Emerging Artists to Watch". Jeanne is best known for her large scale paintings of emotive abstracted figures that combine subtle layers, luminescent glaze and bold freehand scribbles. What’s most striking is her ability to harness a childhood vision and translate it into a mature concept. Her use of pungent color and contrast creates memorable pieces that allow for unique experiences upon every viewing.
Jeanne has stated that “I always have an intention in mind or a message to share. My work usually erupts in spontaneous bursts of energy. Embracing my fearless side has allowed me to become more adventurous and intuitive. When you see my work, you’ll learn something about the journey I took in creating it".
