Item Description
Pastel, 30" x 24"
Boston is a city of contrasts. As an artist who paints urban scenes, the most marked contrast for Shelly is between old and new. In this painting she explores the differences in the old and new architecture and the accoutrements of daily life. The new car is sitting uncomfortably on the narrow street amongst the old gas lanterns. The height of the new buildings towers over the smaller compact buildings of the past. The textures are different, and the action on the narrow street seems incongruous with the very nature of the beginnings of the colonial period. It is these visions that make Boston so special.
Shelly Eager works with pastels as her medium to express how she experiences and views the world. Shelly is an award-winning artist, and a member of a variety of art associations including the Copley Society of Art and the North Shore Art Association. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Istade Nams Art Museum in Cesis, Latvia and the Rotating Corporate Art Collection of Sensata Technologies.
