Item Description
Que Syrah, Syrah...A celebration of a few of the world’s best Syrahs (and one Petite Syrah for fun!)
1. 1995 Guigal Hermitage One of the purest expressions of the Syrah grape from its homeland, the Northern Rhone Valley in France. Made in the traditional style by a winemaker the critic Robert Parker calls the “planet’s greatest winemaker.” Will drink well for another 20 years!
2. 2003 Tardieu Laurent Cote-Rotie Another Northern Rhone from it’s most famous village, Cote-Rotie, this is made in the more modern style, which is ready to drink a little younger, but will still last years and years to come. Rated 95 points by Wine Spectator. Only 50 cases made!
3. 2000 D’Arenburg The Dead Arm Shiraz Shiraz, as Syrah is known in Australia is the greatest wine made Down Under. “The Dead Arm” made from ancient vines dating to the late 19th century is one of the greatest of the greats, garnering awards year after year. The 2000 won four gold medals in Australia alone. Just beginning to reach maturity.
4. 1998 Behrens and Hitchcock Mendocino Syrah Made in the rich, concentrated style typical of California. Loaded with spicy blackberry fruit, this bombshell from a small boutique winery is ready to drink. In wax sealed magnum, because one regular bottle would never be enough!
5. 2000 Turley Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard Although an entirely different grape than Syrah, there are similarities. Bigger, darker and more tannic than Syrah, there is the familiar blackberry and plum flavors. Virtually impossible to obtain, except direct from the winery on release, this blockbuster almost port-like in consistency, will drink well for 30 years.
