Acrylic on Wood Painting 2 feet x 3 feet

Statement of Work

After Yupo is a series of paintings, completed over the summer of 2009, initially inspired by the transparent and silky qualities of Yupo paper. What transpired was a Zen involvement with the material, wood and paint, and the nature in which the work was created. The paintings are silky sensual compositions of wild flowers on planks of raw wood. There is a juxtaposition of the feminine quality of the silky paint against the rough and raw wood that brings a provocative tension to the work. As well, the works evokes the whimsical nature of summer and youth as well as the ethereal beauty of nature.
