Item Special Note
When Courtney began researching the event and what it stood for, she created a chair of hope and positive energy. My first thoughts were of symbolic animals and how I could utilize them in the piece. I used the butterfly in the imagery and some of the beautiful flowers they are attracted to. Courtney attached meshed colorful wings to make the contrast of fragility and strength between the material of the chair and wings. The butterfly is a symbol of metamorphosis, energy, celebration, lightness and the soul. These are all things she feels The Villages, the beneficiary of her chair, recognizes and relates to through imagery. Courtney also incorporated the ladybug that stands for regeneration, fearlessness, protection and good luck. All of these are symbols and energy Courtney feels will lift up the spirit and protect through hard times.
Biography: Courtney Wesemann grew up in Aurora, Indiana, right across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. She recently graduated from Herron School of Art and Design with her Bachelors of Fine Arts.
