Crossing Antartica
Co-authors: Will Steger and Jon Bowermaster
Paperback book
In March 1990 Will Steger completed what no man had ever before attempted: the crossing of Antarctica on foot. Lured by the challenge and the beauty of Earth's last great wilderness, and determined to focus the world's attention on the frozen continent now that its ecological future hangs in the balance Steger and his International Trans-Antarctic team had performed an extraordinary feat of endurance: 3,741 miles in 221 days, surviving the most brutal weather (wind chills of -150 degrees, winds raging beyond one hundred miles per hour), traversing plains of ice riddled with deep and deadly crevasses and mountain ranges as high as 11,400 feet.
