Item Description
Bring home a classic print from the H.H. Bennett Studio in Wisconsin Dells. Viewed as one of the ten best landscape photographers of the 19th century, H.H. Bennett earned this distinction with his technically superior, artistically composed photographs and stereo views. Bennett's photographs of the Dells of the Wisconsin River truly made him the "the man who made the Wisconsin Dells famous."
Bennett moved from Vermont to Kilbourn City (now Wisconsin Dells) in 1857. He originally trained as a carpenter, but after a Civil War injury crippled his right hand, he had to find another craft. He taught himself the new art of photography and opened a studio in 1865. Read more about H.H. Bennett's story and place in history here.
