Minneapolis has the finest network of urban bike trails in the country, winding around the city's numerous lakes and along the Mississippi River. Enjoy a scenic tour by bike with with The Intelligent Optimist's (formerly Ode's) former executive editor, Jay Walljasper, and get the chance to engage in conversation about the magazine publishing business.
Jay will spend the day with you and a friend or loved one touring his hometown of Minneapolis-St.Paul, with stops at all his favorite haunts. Of course, details about his books and insights into the publishing business will be liberally dispensed along the way.
Jay was the editorial director and editor of Utne Reader, executive editor of Ode, and a travel editor at Better Homes & Gardens. Utne Reader was nominated for the National Magazine Award for general excellence three times during his tenure. He's written three cover stories on sustainable tourism for National Geographic Traveler, and Savannah State University awarded Jay the Robert S. Abbot Award for Meritorious Service in Mass Communications.
He covers a wide variety of topics, with particular specialties in community and urban issues, travel, sustainability, cultural commentary, and the commons.
