Item Description
The process of Raku is accomplished by using very sandy clay and a low-fired kiln. The pieces are removed from the kiln at a peak temperature of 1800 degrees with a tong and placed in a closed container with some combustible to smolder. The carbon that is released combines with the glaze to form the lusters.
The process comes from Japan and is commonly associated with the Tea Ceremony. Its history dates back to the 15th century.
