Item Description

Participants will learn the basics of knitting through two simple projects. Class will start with an introduction to tools and skills as each person works to complete the first project, a small knitted wash cloth (cotton yarn provided by instructor). The second and third classes will be dedicated to using the skills from the first class(in addition to a few new ones) to knit and assemble a stuffed animal as found in the  A First Book of Knitting  by Bonnie Gosse and Jill Allerton.

Class 1: Learn tools, cast on, knit, cast off- leaving class with small (child's size) wash scrubby

Class 2: Review cast on and knit, learn to read a simple pattern, increase and decrease stitches

Class 3: Review prior skills and learn sewing up of stuffed animal

Instructor:  Megan Huschle is a Waldorf Early Childhood teacher at Aurora Waldorf School. She first learned to knit at a young age from her grandmother, but forgot the skill as the years passed. As an adult she quickly recovered her knitting skills during her training at Sunbridge College (now known as Sunbridge Institute), and now enjoys creating children's toys and other knitted items in her spare time. Megan likes to jokingly say "I grew up Waldorf without knowing it" as her childhood was filled with time outside in the woods, and inside baking and learning various crafting skills (such as sewing, quilting and cross stitching) from her mother.
