Item Description

This past April, 10 members of New Outlook's Young Women's Adventure Group spent a full day building the Adirondack chairs under the guidance of the Girls at Work Program. Girls at Work is a NH-based organization dedicated to empowering young women through woodworking and carpentry. Working in pairs, the girls sawed, hammered, nailed, and sanded their chairs into life! The building process was transformational for all involved.

The second phase of the Adirondack chair project involved a group of talented local artists who spent countless hours painting each chair into a finished product! The end result is a beautiful collection of unique pieces of original, yet functional, art. More information about the artists, their personal styles, and their artistic visions can be explored at the location of each chair as well as on our auction website.

About the Artist: Karen Ladd

Deeply effected by her upbringing in rural Vermont, consisting of more time outside than inside, Karen is inspired by dramatically lit landscapes and natural elements from around the world.  This chair reflects her love of rich color, organic line, pattern, and the energy those elements can provide.

Karen earned a degree in Art Education from St. Lawrence

University in 2000 and went on to complete her M.Ed. at

Lesley University in 2006. This school year marked her eleventh year at Sanborn Regional High School in Kingston, NH where she teaches drawing, painting, and ceramics.
