A commemorative piece, of vibrant colors, digitally printed from the originally commissioned painting of two Buffalo Soldiers in action, designed and painted by local artist, Mike James of Tombstone, AZ.
The wooden frame has a unique quality, designed and created by local artist, Doug Roman. With the frame, this piece is 16" H x 13" W.
Artwork donated by the 10th Cavalry Troop B Foundation, Inc.
On July 28, 1866 after the Civil War, the United States 39th Congress authorized the U.S. Army Reorganization Act to form six regiments of colored troops: four infantry and two cavalry. The 10th cavalry was formed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and commanded by Colonel Benjamin Grierson.
The name "Buffalo Soldiers" was given to the colored soldiers by the American Indians.
The Indians established a great deal of respect for these fierce adversaries, because like a buffalo, when in battle they fought like the wild buffalo.
For over 30 years, the Buffalo Soldiers patrolled the western frontier, from the Mississippi to the Rocky Mountains, from the Canadian borders toMexico. The 10th Cavalry was stationed at Fort Huachuca in Arizona from 1913 through 1931, longer than any other U.S. Army organization.
