Jazz Town is a great book!!!! Great writing: structure, color, composition, etc. Nothing, absolutely nothing gets in the way of being in the very story itself. The characters, dialogue, predicaments, surroundings, famous people and familiar places - all blend to make this book a super read. I've probably read 300 books in the last year (about 200 all the way through) and place Jazz Town in the top ten.

I absolutely loved this book! When you start reading give yourself ample time as you will not be able to put it down. The characters and situations they encountered were meaningful and unforgettable. I have read a lot of books the past two years and none come close to this one in writing and story line. Looking forward to more by this talented author.

Jazz Title - very good views of Kansas City and a novel perspective on the wealthy and the jazz players. Great detail. It's almost like looking inside the Jazz world.

Jazz Town is a wonderful read. It is highly informative about Kansas City in the 20'and 30's, about the jazz scene, and the relationships between the well-to-do and their servants while focusing on one family in which father and son struggled to come to terms with their divergent interest and way of life. The lively dialogue brings these issues to life in a dramatic and poignant way.
Jazz Town is so much fun. I was there, listening to Rebecca. I overheard what Susie Mae and John Charles were talking about and I went on a road trip with Pete and Patch. I highly recommend this well written book.
Thank You, Beth Lyon Barnett, for your fine novel.

Beth Barnett has created a real classic in her break-out novel, Jazz Town. She nailed the culture of Kansas City, all the ethnic groups, and the beginning of the world class jazz community that grew to fame on 18th and Vine. Each character speaks from his or her own point of view, making it stylistically engaging. You get to know the maids, the Jewish professionals, and all the cultural groups that melded in the early 20th century to make Kansas City with it is today. Bravo to Ms. Barnett. I'm impatiently waiting for her second novel!
