Item Description
LeRoy Neiman poster [pictured]:
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), in partnership with the Las Vegas Centennial Committee, debuted the official oil painting of the LVCVA at a press conference on April 1, 2005. Titled Celebrating 100 Years in Neon, the painting was commissioned to commemorate the destination’s centennial year. LeRoy Neiman repeatedly chose Las Vegas as his subject matter, depicting boxing matches, casino action and the city’s signature entertainment in his paintings.
The News Bureau poster:
Limited edition poster commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Las Vegas News Bureau in 2012. The News Bureau was established by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce in 1947 to promote Las Vegas as a tourism destination. It wasn’t long before the News Bureau’s photographers were shooting entertainers backstage, on stage, or staging photos with Harpo Marx, Mickey Rooney or Frank Sinatra. Cheesecake photos – whether featuring showgirls, cocktail waitresses or the likes of Jane Mansfield – were among the more popular shot by the News Bureau. These photos were transmitted around the world and helped drive the publicity machine for Las Vegas. The News Bureau evolved into a true resource for journalists, generating news releases and assisting with press trips, as well as providing photography. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) acquired the News Bureau in the early 1990s. Today, the News Bureau is an integral part of the LVCVA’s marketing efforts, and remains a source for news media across the globe seeking imagery of one of the world’s leading tourism destinations. We share our collection with the public through community exhibitions. Portions of the News Bureau’s archive can be viewed year round in the Las Vegas Convention Center and at local libraries and public buildings during scheduled exhibitions.
