Item Description
Connoisseurs of fashion and textiles will be in heaven to own these lavish, hardback coffee table art books.
Each lot includes one copy of each:
Embellished is more than just a visual feast of embroidery combining elements as diverse as exotic feathers, plastic jewelry, buttons, and vintage millinery straw. It is a journey of inspiration and creativity, illustrating the process in which a dying, outmoded art can be stretched in exciting, new contemporary ways of working.
Paperwork presents the working methods of the eccentric and unique artist Peter Clark, showing the progression of these pieces from found ephemera and paper to pieces of art. Using a variety of techniques to manipulate the materials and works with a palette of color, texture, weight, pattern and age resulting in three-dimensional collages that appear to be 'painted'.
A must for any art book collection, these breaking-the-rules books are designed to intrigue and provoke discussions. Don't let the opportunity to own an unusual treasury by such a talented couple pass by, bid now!
Item Special Note
About the Artists:
Karen Nicol is a mixed media textile designer. She has been established in her London based design studio for over twenty five years making textiles for clients in the world of fashion such as Givenchy, Matthew Williamson, Marc Jacobs, Chloe and Vera Wang.
For the past five years Karen’s work has embraced gallery art pieces, followed by her first solo shows at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery NY and the Mantero gallery in Como, Italy where her work explored the mix of fashion and art. She is currently Visiting Professor in Textiles at the Royal College Art.
Peter Clark creates three dimensional paper collages using found objects and mixed media. He graduated from Manchester college of Art and Design has long been interested in making visual that which exists in words, his career started as an illustrator and designer of animation for television.
A long time collector of ‘things', Peter trawls through antiques fairs, flea markets and second hand stores with his wife, textile designer Karen Nicol, to find the right objects to inspire his works. His most recognized pieces are the series of Dogs, from Spaniels to Bulldogs, and Clothes, from a dress out of old Ordnance Survey maps to a Hell’s Angels jacket made of old bible and prayers books.
