Florencio Lennox Campello was born in Guantanamo, Cuba and graduated from the University of Washington School of Art in Seattle in 1981. During his studies, Campello helped to create the Arts NW Student Gallery in Seattle, the area's first art gallery focused on student artwork, which jump-started his active career in the arts. In 1996, Campello opened the Fraser Gallery in Washington, DC, which has become of the most important indepedent commercial galleries in the city. In addition to organizing and curating exhibitions at the Fraser, Campello has put on shows in major galleries and institutions throughout the DC area, including the Atheneum in Alexandria, the Cultural Institute of Mexico, and the Corcoran Gallery in collaboration with the Washington Project for the Arts.
Campello is a reputable art critic and one of the Internet's leading art bloggers. His reviews have been published in DC One Magazine, Cultureflux Magazine, ArtsKrush Magazine, Art Calendar Magazine, Visions Magazine for the Arts, Dimensions Magazine, Pitch Magazine, The City Beat, Washingtonpost.com and various local newspapers. He is the author of "100 Artists of Washington, DC." Campello has lived in Spain and Scotland and has exhibited his work from Brazil to Russia and Malaysia.
