About the Artist

Born and educated in England, Lucelle Raad moved to South Africa then to South Carolina. She focuses and captures the emotional and innocent grace of children and in the celebration of life. Pensive moments, secrets shared, a helping hand and simple play are the elements of life she chooses to portray. For over 20 years, she had produced more than 100 limited edition prints. When asked why she painted children, she replies. "I find unending satisfaction in combining my artistic interest in the figure with my emotional interest in children. There is more expression in an offhand gesture by a small child, than in all the posturing of our adult world."

Her work has characteristics of early impressionism with ecidence of traditionalism creating a contemporary feel. She has been called an "intimist" because her subjects draw you into an intimate relationship with their activities and emotions. You can't help but see and feel the character within the child.

"Raad's work is realistic but she abandons the classical traditions of symmetry to capture individual movement. Spontaneous elements, eclectic groupings and asymmetric patterns create the captures moment yet the scene appears to still be unfolding." That is due to her use of a high key palette that is bright and active. As you watch a scene, colors appear to be shifting. Concentration is places on bodies, movement and action rather than minute detail.

She has won prizes throughout the United Stated for her work and her paintings and prints are highly popular onboard cruise lines and in galleries throughout the world.
