Item Description
Fog Over Woodside is an oil on canvas. It was painted Plein Aire at a rest stop on highway 280.
I was seeking to capture the light of a California afternoon with the fog bank hanging precipitously over the mountaintops of the Coastal range on the San Francisco peninsula. This is such an ubiquitous sight on a summer day in Northern California. I never tire of studying it and enjoying it's beauty.
Denise Natanson-Marcus is an artist who has always wished to express the deep, peaceful beauty of nature through her paintings. She had classical training at Boston University School of Fine Arts, and has painted representationally for 45 years, but she has always been drawn to the California artists and their contemporary realism, as well as the Impressionists. This has influenced her composition and sense of light in her paintings.
