Item Description

The striking Cheetah Bowl has been carved using machettees by a village artist and features an intricately wrought Cheetah head on the rim.
Soapstone has been a medium forcarving for thousands of years. Talented artists hand hew the soapstone
to create all measure of sculpture---from vases to safari animals and
bowls to decorative platters. This bowl was donated to ABC by the Margaret Okari Children's Foundation---which supports what has evolved into a small village that houses, feeds, and educates close to
230 AIDS orphans---sits high on a hill in Kisii, Kenya. Those very hills are also the home to soapstone quarries. SMany of the original soapstone carvers
were parents of the now orphaned children. The Okari Foundation now
markets and exports this beautiful soapstone, helping to maintain a
sustainable life for local artists. The entire handmade process, from
the rough design to the painting of the brilliant colors, takes place
near the school. Okari's mission has a proven track record of success
exponentially increasing the children's chances to flourish and be
self-reliant in a society that needs so much. To learn more about this
worthy cause please visit www.educating-aids-orphans-in-africa.org

collected from the purchase of the soapstone directly benefit the
children of the Okari School. Thank you for your continued support
