Item Description

There is no toil and trouble in Conrad Ross's depiction of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The grounds surrounding ASF were designed to mimic the pastoral charms of an English countryside. Ducks and geese sun themselves in front of the lake as the theatre stands behind them in twice her glory. This oil and digital painting measures 28 inches by 36 inches framed.

Conrad Ross was interested in art at a young age and his ability was recognized early.  His high school art teachers encouraged him to pursue his interest seriously.  In 1953, he graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting with high honors.  One of his undergraduate works was accepted in the Oakland, California Art Museum national juried exhibition.  He continues to exhibit, with over 40 solo exhibitions and 400 juried and invitational shows under his belt.

In the fall of 1956, Conrad began graduate school at the State University of Iowa studying printmaking with Mauricio Lasansky, a master of intaglio and a noted printmaking instructor.  Conrad received his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1959.  In 1960, he was awarded a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant in printmaking and purchased an intaglio press with the funds.

In 1963, Conrad Ross secured a position in the Art Department at Auburn University where he remained until his obtaining emeritus status on retirement in 1997.  Conrad established Wycross Press in 1989.  Wycross publishes limited-edition multiples.
