Jas Milam is a native Chattanoogan who graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1983 in early childhood development and studio art and then received a master’s degree in art and art therapy from Saint Mary of the Woods College in 2010. She served as an Allied Arts’ teaching artist and has designed and taught programs for Hunter Museum, Chattanooga Parks and Recreation and the Hamilton County school system. Jas conducts workshops for individuals and groups at the Rivoli Art Mill in East Lake. She facilitates art therapy groups at local treatment centers for addicts, alcoholics and women with disordered eating. At the AIM Center (a clubhouse for mentally ill adults) Jas is Visual Arts Coordinator and facilitates an open studio. Jas brings 25 years of art education into her work with children and has experience with learning disabilities, divorce/loss, alcoholism, and their effect on the family system. She believes in the healing inherent in the creative process and makes art that draws on both religious and secular imagery. Jas is currently making altar art; most recently large 4’x8’ abstract Chapel paintings.
