Artist: Mark D. Larsen, Portland Oregon
Artist's Statement:
For me making art can be like making magic, making something appear that wasn't there before. Time can evaporate while my artwork develops some kind of life of its own. I focus on what is materializing and become involved with the needs of the piece at hand without regard to style or destination. I enjoy working in different styles using different processes and various materials. Often I connect with the natural world by studying and observing people, places or things. In the past several years I have exhibited pieces in plain air competitions and shows in the summer and work on still life paintings in the winters.
I was born in my mother’s home town and raised in a military family taking me to China, Hawaii, Japan and both U.S. coasts before my father retired and we moved back “home” to Lebanon, Oregon where I finished high school. I kept the momentum going and “traveled” through the University of Oregon. with several different majors until finding myself in all art classes. I decided to make a living as an artist. This led to commercial art, illustration and graphic design, theater set design, a degree in painting from Portland State University, teaching elementary art education, mural making, faux finish painting ,commission portraits, and some easel painting and gallery exhibitions along the way.
Item Special Note
