Item Description
Allies for Inclusion: The Ability Exhibit is an interactive multimedia traveling exhibit that promotes disability awareness and offers suggestions for becoming disability allies and educators. Based on a student's project in a graduate disability course, the Ability Exhibit is sponsored by Saint Louis University's College of Education and Division of Student Development.
The purpose of the Ability Exhibit is to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities through respect for others, comfort during interactions, and awareness of disability issues. The exhibit supports the professional competencies of inclusion, diversity and sustainability (i.e., including people with disabilities, appreciating similarities and differences, andmaintaining human well-being).
The Ability Exhibit traveling edition is divided into 10 stations identified by Braille and raised lettering placards. Twelve 7-foot banners and over 40 foam board posters are positioned throughout the exhibit along with several videos, PowerPoint presentations, interactive activities, promotional materials (buttons, bookmarks, bookets), and a personalized “I Pledge to be an Ally for Inclusion” sign for visitors’ signatures.
Colleges, universities and community organizations rent the exhibit for 1-3 days at a cost of $2500 plus shipping. You may bid to host the Ability Exhibit, and, if you win, you will schedule a showing (a 1-to-3 day period between April 1, 2013 and April 30, 2014), paying your bid amount and shipping.
