Friderike immigrated to the US from Germany in 1981.  After receiving a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the New School of Social Research in New York, she taught Visual Perception and Cognition at both the graduate and undergraduate levels for 15 years.  Her work with photomontages is usually text-based--'translating' poems or other writings into images.   Set in historical or contemporary settings Friderike's work is motivated by a desire to open new perspectives on great works of literary art and is primarily concerned with issues of justice and the consequences of exile and emigration.
