Item Description
Thunderstorm Chicago is a framed 22 x 32 inch print photographed by Northside parent Bryan Rule on July 1, 2011.
Lightning hitting the surface of Lake Michigan from a vantage point high up. Six lightning bolts in this 30 second exposure. This is the last minute of the storm on its trailing edge.
The image has gone all over the world (and has been stolen more than once!). Over 250,000 views on the internet. It won picture of the week award on a Chicago website. Many think it is fake or photoshopped but it is real. Just one of two public prints.
When you click on the "wisest decision ever" link, you will see 3 pictures. The blue light on Lake Michigan is a police boat that turns around just 2 minutes before it would have been struck by lightning.
