Andrew J. Carpentier

Artist

Beginning over 10 years ago with a class with Philip Frey of Sullivan, ME and with the sponsorship of the former Firehouse Gallery, I plunged into painting after many years of dabbling on the side. Philip provided the guidance to tackle composition, color, and expression.

Since then I have studied with Philip many times over the years. In addition with Anthony Riccardi at the Cambridge Center for Adult Ed, Jill Pottle of the DeCordova Museum and School, Lincoln MA, and recently with Colin Page through River Arts Association, Damariscotta ME.. This past fall I studied with Chris Chippendale at Mass College of Art, Boston and in this class transitioned from acrylics to oils.

I split my time and my painting between Boston and my summer home in Bristol ME near Pemaquid Beach. Lincoln County, Monhegan Island, and Boston are my inspirations. My style sometimes resembles that of Edward Hopper [hopefully without his pathos] and my color that of Pierre Bonnard.

I have exhibited at the River Arts Gallery, Damariscotta ME; Out of the Blue Gallery, Cambridge MA; and the 1369 Coffee House, Cambridge MA.
