Item Description
In about 1960 Seattle Pacific College president C. Hoyt Watson and his wife Elsie made an around the world trip, visiting many of the college demonination's missionaries in their work. One item they returned with is this spear from Africa. It was presented to them as a gift. When this type of weapon is gifted, it means "We Will Never Fight".
The name for this kind of spear is an Isijula. The leaf shaped blade with a ling and a heavy steel neck was designed to provide a perfect balance for the spear when you threw it. The collar is tightly bound with a flat grass stem. That's what gives it the flair. You'll notice that the wooden shaft is not utterly perfect, it was carefully smoothed from a branch.
