Item Description
The legend of the White Buffalo Calf Maiden is the heart of many Lakota Teachings. Believed to have come as a shooting star over 2000 years ago, she transforms into a beautiful young woman to save a starving Lakota Nation. Not only did she bring the instrument of prayer known as the Peace Pipe but also the Seven Sacred Rites in which the Pipe is used. These rites were to help the people so that they could live long with their relations and include the following: Keeping of the Soul, Purification (Sweat Lodge), Vision Quest, Sundance, The Making of Relatives, A Girl’s Coming of Age, and the Throwing of the Ball. Representing nourishment, reproduction, and women’s sacredness, she has become a symbol of Native American Spirituality for all of humanity.
This lovely clay casting of her stands nearly 3 feet tall and is perfect inside or outside.
