About Ellen Farhi:
I am a labor support doula living in Brooklyn, NY. I currently serve the New York five boroughs and New Jersey areas.
I began my journey as a doula with my own childbirth experiences, starting at ground zero, so to speak, and feeling my way around in the dark. I knew, after the birth of my first child, that the single most important person to me in the whole event was my nurse, who stayed with me as much as she possibly could, attended to my emotional as well as physical needs, listened with kindness and caring, and stayed past her shift to help me birth my baby. She was the human touch, and kept me feeling supported and listened to. Little did I know that she was more than my nurse, she was my doula.
Since then, I found a place for my passion -- to be alongside women in childbirth, listening carefully to their needs and caring for them and their family. It made all the difference for me to have that support -- the difference between feeling defeated, dis-empowered and feeling strong, secure, happy with my choices for my birth.
In November 2003 I trained with Doulas of North America Intl. to be a labor support doula. I completed my certification in 2005, and have since renewed certification in 2009. I am proud to be a member of this organization, who has set the standard for doula practice in North America, as well as many other places in the world.
My experience includes nearly 60 births in the NY/NJ area. I have attended births in hospitals, birth centers inside and outside of hospitals, and home births. I have supported first time moms, sixth time moms, single moms, twins births, medicated and non medicated vaginal births, cesarean births, , and many other shapes and sizes! They are all great, and I am always honored to be included as a member of your team.
