Item Description
Mobius Band necklace, 25" x 2", made of antique and contemporary glass beads, hand stitched off-loom with needle and silamide thread, using an augmented right angle weave construction.
Designed and made by Ann Tevepaugh Mitchell, a noted beadwork artist whose scuplture and jewelry have been shown nationally in museums and galleries, and have been featured in books and magazines. She is the grandmother of a CMS Purple Room and a Rose Room student.
The Mobius band, described by August Ferdinand Mobius (1790-1868) is a two-dimensional strip, which, when joined with a half-twist, produces one continuous surface having one continuous edge. Its form exists in nature and is used in mathematics, manufacturing and design.
