Item Description
"Imperfection" is a silver gelatin print by RosaLee Ward.
Artist Statement:
"The piece is part of an ongoing exploration into the nature of self-image. I wanted to produce work that had a positive impact on my viewers, making them feel good about their bodies or at least in acceptance. This particular print is part of a set of 8 pieces, all of which utilize the scratched lettering technique. While I was shooting in-studio with my models, we would have very open discussions about how they felt about their bodies, what they liked and didn't like about them, what they wish they could change, etc., and these conversations informed what I wrote on each print. The model for this print told me that she used to hate her stretch marks and how fat her stomach was, but now she doesn't see them as imperfections anymore and has embraced them as part of her beautiful body. About the Artist:
"I am a student at Western Michigan University's Frostic School of Art, and I am in the process of obtaining my Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in photography and intermedia. I have been interested in photography and shooting regularly for about seven years, and actively taking classes in the subject for three. My interest in body image and art related to it began in my first photography class at Western and has only grown since then. My ultimate goal is to play a large role in dismantling unhealthy and destructive beauty regimes and promoting body positivity for everyone."
