About Marilyn Seda
I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1980. My artistic abilities blossomed at the early age of five as I began taking drawing and painting lessons. My first drawings consisted of household items like cookware, shoes, house plants, etc. Many observers found it hard to believe that such a young artist had created these photo-realistic pieces.

Continuing to take art lessons throughout childhood, by age 10, I was accepted and enrolled at Central de Artes Visuales in Santurce, the only specialized Visual Arts High School in Puerto Rico. There I studied passionately, graduating with honors and receiving “El Premio Magno en Pintura” in 1997 which is the highest achievement award received in Painting.

After high school I was accepted into the country’s leading art school, Escuela de Artes Plásticas, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, were I graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, with honors. There I had the privilege of studying under professors Charles Juhasz Alvarado (video)Rafael Rivera RosaJosé R. AliceaElizam Escobar Ortíz, among others.

Though I am academically trained in many areas such as human anatomy, life drawing, landscapes, and still-life, I my preferences are abstract expressionism and surrealism.

By age 12, I already had more than fifteen solo exhibitions as well as a variety of collective shows not only in Puerto Rico but also in the United States. Among many others, some preferred venues at which I exhibited include:

~ The Capitol of Puerto Rico (El Viejo San Juan, PR)
~ Museo las Américas (El Viejo San Juan, PR)
~ Museo De Arte Marcos J. Alegría (Dorado, PR)
La Galería de la Calle del Cristo (El Viejo San Juan, PR)
~ La Galería de Telemundo (Hato Rey, PR)
~ Victor’s Café (Manhattan, NY)

Additionally, I was awarded with the “Premio Futuro” three years in a row by G.A.L.O.S. Corporation in 1991, 1992 and 1993, as well as “Jóvenes Destacados del 2000” in 2000 by the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico.

The Lord's Intimate Presence

Through various mediums and techniques, my recent works
emerge from the union between Holy Spirit and myself.

My intention is to see Him and to experience Him, as well
as His ecstatic delights in me, while co-creating each piece.
This intimate moment is a reflection of the revelation
that I recieve of His magnified Glory and of the precious,
vast and expansive love that we so passionately share together.
Engulfed in this intensly emotional experience, I engage with
Him by generously pouring myself into Him with great
passion, as we achieve unique and unpremeditated beauties.

As a result, the pieces are created with intense brush
stokes and thick tangible textures that are highly colorful
as they portray a fluid motion of the Holy Spirit.

My daily personal experiences with the Lord God invoke
my ability to "see" these divine compositions as I stand
before the bare canvas. With each completed piece, my
color-diary-love-letter to God grows toward perfection.
