off our backs (oob) was an American radical feminist periodical that was published continuously from February 1970 to 2008, making it the longest-running feminist periodical in the history of the United States.
off our backs began as a twelve-page tabloid first issue published on February 27, 1970. The editors off our backs later adapted it into a bimonthly magazine.
off our backs was edited and published by a collective of women who practiced consensus decision-making. Marilyn Webb, Heidi Steffens, Marlene Wicks, Colette Reid, and Norma Lesser formed the original off our backs collective.
The staff later comprised Carol Anne Douglas, Amaya Roberson, Sherri Whatley, Laura Butterbaugh, Farar Elliott, Angie Manzano, Karla Mantilla, Jennie Ruby, Jenn Smith, and Angie Young.
