Item Description

Ah, for those cold nights when you need extra warmth, or when the cuddly feeling of wool enwrapping you will bring comfort: enjoy this magnificent and super cozy afghan, entirely hand crocheted by the Hook and Needle Group.  Reportedly, it took over 150 hours to create this veritable work of craftsmanship.  Flowers are the main design but they are reminiscent of snowflakes.  They come in off white and acorn brown, framed by a moss green border, that repeats throughout the pattern.  Our artists did not stop there, as they added scalloped borders that turn this practical woolen afghan into a work of art and love.

The afghan measures 62” x 62.” Machine wash with cold water, gentle cycle; either air dry flat or in the dryer’s gentle or low cycle, no heat.

And to brighten those cool chilly evenings, , this lovely afghan comes with two hand-poured pure beeswax wolf candles. These candles have a delightful natural sweet fragrance, burn longer, and give off more light than other candles. The candles are smokeless, have minimal to no dripping, and burn approximately one inch per hour.

Item Special Note

Seven years ago, a small group of women who visited the
Fanwood Memorial Library on a regular basis decided to get together to do something for their community. They loved to knit and crochet, and had run out of projects they could do for their home, friends and family.  The time had come to focus on something else.

So, they decided that they would meet once a week at the library to knit and crochet together. They would donate their work to various charitable causes in the area.

Since then, the group has grown to more than a dozen members.  They have taught one another how to knit, crochet, or improve their techniques.  More to the point, they have turned this into a veritable community workshop.  Every single afghan, shawl, baby toy and knit liner for a helmet are given to a specific charity that they identify. They buy the yarn, knit and crochet for hundreds of hours, derive absolutely no income from this selfless venture.  But they receive the best gift of all: knowing that their artwork helps an elderly or a homeless person feel warm, a soldier feel more protected by the liner in his helmet, a baby to play with a soft and cuddly toy.  They simply smile back and keep on knitting out of love for others.

This year, the “Hook and Needle Group” prepared 3 large afghans
for The Seeing Eye Auction, and also donated several adorable and huggable baby toys.

Enjoy their art for the comfort it will provide, and
remember that it came from women with big hearts who love to help those around them. From the Hook and Needle group directly to you!
