Item Description

Turtles are always magical for children: slow, gentle, and mysterious. This hand-knitted baby turtle is crafted in a very realistic way, ever so cuddly, soft, and easy to hold... a baby’s best friend!

This soft and cuddly hand-knit turtle in greens is beyond adorable. Its stuffing is hypoallergenic and its eyes, ears, and other parts cannot be pulled out. Machine washable. Measures 7.5" in length and 7" wide.

Item Special Note

Seven years ago, a small group of women who visited the Fanwood Memorial Library on a regular basis decided to get together to do something for their community. They loved to knit and crochet, and had run out of projects they could do for their home, friends, and family. The time had come to focus on something else.

So, they decided that they would meet once a week at the library to knit and crochet together. They would donate their work to various charitable causes in the area.

Since then, the group has grown to more than a dozen members.  They have taught one another how to knit, crochet, or improve their techniques. More to the point, they have turned this into a veritable community workshop. Every single afghan, shawl, baby toy, and knit liner for a helmet are given to a specific charity that they identify. They buy the yarn, then knit and crochet for hundreds of hours, deriving absolutely no income from this selfless venture. But they receive the best gift of all: knowing that their artwork helps an elderly or a homeless person feel warm, a soldier feel more protected by the liner in his helmet, a baby to play with a soft and cuddly toy. They simply smile back and keep on knitting out of love for others.

This year, the “Hook and Needle Group” prepared three large Afghans
for The Seeing Eye Auction, and also donated several adorable and huggable baby toys.

Enjoy their art for the comfort it will provide, and remember that it came from women with big hearts who love to help those around them. From the Hook and Needle group directly to you!
