Item Description

The Northern saw-whet owl is the smallest and one of the most charming owls found in North America.  They have a round, light, white face with brown and cream streaks and are difficult to spot.

Banding these delightful and serene owls help biologists learn about their migration and breeding patterns.  They are harmlessly caught, banded and released after being weighed and measured.

The winning bidder and nine guests will have a chance to see and learn about this adorable bird first-hand with an experienced and licensed bander.  A catered meal will accompany this event, which will take place at a mutually agreeable time in October 2013.

Item Special Note

Event will begin around 7pm and may continue until 12pm-1am at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.  Children are welcomed, but please know that they may have to do a short walk to the nets and should be able to tolerate a late-night.  All guests should dress for the weather, wear hiking boots or sneakers and, if available, bring flashlights or headlamps.  The bander will have some equipment to share. Taking pictures are not only permitted, but encouraged.  Dinner will be catered by a local restaurant, with meal selection determined prior to the event.
