University of New Mexico Student Union Ballrooms B&C

Bookworks, in partnership with the University of New Mexico English Department's Literature Program, is pleased to host the world renowned author Khaled Hosseini, on tour for his new novel And the Mountains Echoed. And the Mountains Echoed is Dr. Hosseini's first book in six years and continues his tradition of family storytelling about Afghani life and culture.

The publisher notes the novel is "about how we love, how we take care of one another, and how the choices we make resonate through generations." Hosseini's latest tale revolves around parents and children, brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, and their exploration of how families "nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another." The characters lives and loves radiate out from Kabul to Paris to San Francisco to the Greek island of Tinos as an emotionally complex and powerful story unfolds.

In 2006, the UNCHR, the United Nations Refugee Agency named Dr. Hosseini a Goodwill Envoy. The successes of Hosseini's previous novels, The Kite Runer and A Thousand Splendid Suns, have allowed him to establish the Khaled Hosseini Foundation, which provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

Includes two uncorrected proof copies of And the Mountains Echoed and two admissions to the June 9 event at the UNM SUB, where Khaled Hosseini will be in conversation with a local luminary and be available for signing books and meeting fans.
