Item Description
$200 gift certificate to Le Marais, one of New York's few kosher steakhouses, which takes its name and inspiration from the historic, artsy neighborhood in Paris. For its clientele of religious Jews, tourists, and theater-goers, the restaurant recreates a Gallic bistro atmosphere, with dark wood paneling, antique advertising posters, Parisian maps, and life-sized lamp posts. Starters include charcuterie selections, smoked salmon and herring, a vegetable napoleon, and, in a nod to Morocco, a couscous salad spiked with spicy merguez sausage. Still, the main attraction is the meata working butcher shop at the entrance and on-premise aging room signal that these folks mean business. Cuts of succulent ribeye and prime rib are all ably prepared; shallot and bearnaise sauces add further perk. Fabulous fries complete the picture. Other specialties range from steak tartare to slow-cooked veal, and from beef burgundy to chicken fricassee.
