Item Description
Classic Painting of Rockport's Motif #1 by Capt. Steve Squillace done in pastel colors.
Capt. Steve Squillace, owner of Capt. Steve's Seashell Shop on Bearskin Neck in Rockport for 18 years, has been painting for more than 50 years.
He began painting as a teenager when he first began classes with Howard Curtis, a noted Cape Ann painter. His mentor was Emile Gruppe, one of the finest of the Cape Ann School of Artists. His grandfather, Stephen Squillace, was also an artist who studied with Gruppe. He paints primarily Cape Ann seascape and landscapes, which are on display at his downtown shop at 41 Bearskin Neck.
His shop was named as a top five shop in the United States in one of Vogue's European editions last year. This is an image of the iconic Motif No. 1., which framed measures 12x14 inches.
