Item Description
A behind-the-scenes tour for four people of the avian breeding and research facilities at the National Zoo's Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) in Front Royal, VA. Learn about reproductive procedures and conservation of many endangered species including: white-naped, red-crowned and hooded cranes; Guam rails, Micronesian kingfishers, Mariana crow, Bali mynahs, loggerhead shrikes and brown kiwi; and visit the black-footed ferret breeding facility. Tour led by National Zoo Supervisory Biologist Warren Lynch. SCBI is a 3,200-acre site in the Shenandoah Valley where scientists and staff are engaged in multi-disciplinary research to recover endangered species, save habitat, and restore species to the wild.
