Item Description
Traversing local Virginia and West Virginia riparian habitats in search of the elusive and state threatened wood turtle is the ongoing mission of Dr. Thomas Akre, Smithsonian Research Associate and visiting faculty from Longwood University, and his graduate students. The wood turtle is a part of this region's heritage and its habitat is under siege by the changing human-dominated landscape. For years Dr. Akre and his students have been studying wood turtle distribution, movement and survival in the hopes of providing managers with the ability to make better decisions to conserve this species. Join the wood turtle research team in the field at the border of VA/WV as they collect important data on these amazing creatures. Limited to four people.
