3 Biodynamic Field Blend - Our goal with Field Blend was to produce a Biodynamic example of terroir at its finest expression, where site, varietal character, and vintage culminate in an authentic representation of our vineyards. Field Blend succinctly expresses the Biodynamic intercropping and low-impact vinting methods employed to create this wine. Following the Biodynamic winemaking tenants of farming with nature, without pesticides, zero-manipulation in the cellar, and only native yeast used for fermentation, the results are pure, pared-down flavors with no interference between you and the grapes.

Field Blend is graced with a subtle nose of red currant, a hint of star anise, iron, and rose hips. The flavors lend themselves to an available freshness showing dewberry, white pepper, red beet, and a touch of licorice. The finish is balanced with apricot, kola nut, and cherry bark. While 2011 presented a challenging growing season for much of Northern California, it also prompted us to take a creative approach with some unconventional blends. For Field Blend, we took the best of our estate-grown grapes, starting with our Syrah for composed structure, melding it with our Zinfandel for added spice, and rounding everything out with our soft, plummy Merlot. Field Blend pairs harmoniously with grilled flank steak with olive sauce, paella with spicy sausage, or penne with porcini mushrooms.

3 Biodynamic Syrah - Our first estate bottled Syrah shines with a brilliant purple hue. Refined tannins are balanced with big jammy flavors of black plum and bramble fruits. This rich, flavorful wine pairs well with organic meats and cheeses, as well as chocolate desserts.

We have always been family-owned and operated, and today a third generation helps with the production of fine organic wines in a tradition of sustainability started 30 years ago. Our vineyards and winery are nestled on the slopes of the Redwood Valley A.V.A. (American Viticultural Area) in Mendocino County, California, at the headwaters of the Russian River. All of our wines are made with no added sulfites. Our innovative winemaking techniques compensate for the lack of this synthetic preservative (which can induce headaches, sniffles, and other allergic reactions in some people). The wine is therefore free to reveal its delicate and true flavors. Today, we are pleased that many more wineries and grape growers have become certified organic and Biodynamic®, for the health of our common environment as well as our customers.
