"Our Lady of Sorrows" (Mater Dolorosa) is a key work of Roman Catholic Art and Iconography . It depicts the Virgin Mary in her times of anguish and serves as a devotional image for prayers.
Adan Carriaga is a traditional New Mexican artist from Albuqerque. His art includes both bultos (traditional wood carvings of saints), retablos (traditional paintings of saints on carved wooden surfaces), and more. He uses gesso of his own make and natural pigment water colors to create his work. He started carving at the age of eight while watching santero George Sandoval carve. He apprenticed under master santero Alcario Otero. He displays and sells his art at Santa Fe's annual Spanish Market located on the Santa Fe Plaza as well as at San Felipe De Neri's Santero Martket in Old Town, Albuqerque.
