Item Description

The History Press brings a new way of thinking to history publishing — preserving and enriching community by empowering history enthusiasts to write local stories for local audiences. Since starting in 2004, the History Press has published nearly two thousand of the highest quality local and regional history titles from coast to coast.

Included here are four books related to New England history:

- "Ocean-Born Mary: The Truth Behind a New Hampshire Legend." Join historian Jeremy D’Entremont as he separates the facts from the fantastic legends shrouding one of New England’s most enduring folk tales.

- "Stories from the Maine Coast: Skippers, Ships and Storms," by Harry Gratwick. The history of Maine has always been inextricably tied to its coastline. From Searsport’s sailing masters to the burning of Royal Tar, author Harry Gratwick relates the adventures of the skippers and their crews. Read about the search for the Smithy Boat and other tales from Maine’s shipping lanes.

- "Salt & Pines, Tales from Bygone Maine," edited by Jeanne Mason & D.L. Soucy. Those who are fortunate enough to have grown up in Maine know that it has a way of life and sense of humor unlike anywhere else.  If you have ever wondered what it was like to live in Maine’s bygone days, follow along with our contributors and see what tales they have to tell about this state’s unique spirit.

- "How to Catch a Lobster in Down East Maine," by Christina Lemieuz Oragano. What is it like to live in Down East Maine and work in the lobster industry? The extreme weather of the Maine coast, unreliable fishing seasons and an ever-present element of danger are just a few of the challenges encountered by lobster fishermen. Christina Lemieux Oragano provides a glimpse inside these lobstering communities and celebrates it for those lucky enough to live it—the trials, triumphs and even a few favorite lobster recipes from Down East.
