Item Description
A dangerous ledge lies just below the surface of the water in the Fox Islands Thoroughfare that passes between North Haven and Vinalhaven in Midcoast Maine. A "spark plug-style" lighthouse has marked the spot since 1890, warning mariners to beware. Goose Rocks Light is now automated and solar powered, but it still serves the same function.
In November 2006, Beacon Preservation, Inc., took over the preservation and management of Goose Rocks Lighthouse. The lighthouse is now available for "keeper's experience" overnight visits, making it one of the very few lighthouses of its type in the U.S. offering overnight accommodations.
Item Special Note
The winner of this auction item receives an overnight stay for two people on a weeknight in June, July, or August 2013. The winners get the entire lighthouse to themselves for the duration of their stay. Scheduling must be worked out with Beacon Preservation, Inc.
Boat transportation to and from the lighthouse will be provided. You must be fit enough to climb a ladder from the boat to enter the lighthouse.
