Item Description

Enjoy the newly-released two disc commemorative DVD set of The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg, which includes over two hours of extras, drawn from the many outtakes that never made it into the original film, on subjects such as Hank’s managerial years, players’ stories about World War II and marvelous fan and family stories.

This terrific package also comes with a Hank Greenberg baseball hat and film poster autographed by filmmaker Aviva Kempner.

The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg, a recipient of the Foundation for Jewish Culture's Kroll Fund for Jewish Documentary Film, is a feature length film by Aviva Kempner about an extraordinary baseball player who transcended ethnic and religious prejudice to become a hero for all Americans. Hank Greenberg’s achievements during the “Golden Age of Baseball” in the thirties and forties rivaled those of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. As America’s first Jewish baseball star, he helped break down the barriers of discrimination in American sports and society. Greenberg was a beacon of hope to millions of American Jews who faced bigotry during the Depression and World War II.
