Item Description

This red 82" high terra cotta column “Pukao” offers a compelling landmark which will accent your residence, edifice, or business.  Providing a strong visual from a distance, it is a unique (one of a kind) statement in the landscape. It shows extremely well against adobe walls of various hues.  Properly installed, this sculpture is suitable to inhabit the outdoors and  requires no further tending.  It is also suitable for interior installation.  This column may currently be seen at the Mudwasp Sculpture Site in Cuba, NM.

Sculptor Sara Lee D’Alessandro has immersed herself in the medium of clay for over fifty years.   Eighteen years as a scenic artist in New York, particularly working in the grand scale of the Metropolitan Opera House, dampened her interest in sculpture of “table top” scale and inspired interest in the dynamics of Tableaux Vivants, (sculpture of a personable scale which stands on the same ground as the viewer).   Unencumbered with the traditional ceramic process her sculpture in clay exploits clay’s plasticity, immediacy and the creation of unique form.  Enjoy a look at www.saradalessandro.com.
Recent exhibits in Southern NM include: Three large sculptures on the grounds of Bear Mountain Lodge (current);  a two person exhibition “Surprising Similitude in Mud and Paper” last Summer at the Las Cruces Museum of Art, and an exhibition at the Preston Contemporary Art Center in Mesilla, NM.  She will be giving a talk “Romancing the Monomorphic Form” at the Clay Festival in Silver City in the beginning of August.
